THE ORIGIN STORY
BORN / / 2021
It all started when three college students sat together late one night, unable to sleep. They were consumed with their burdened hearts and a longing to see the people of this generation actually live their lives truly set apart from this world. They had continually witnessed others go about their lives without experiencing the fullness of life that God has made tangible for all through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. These students had a realization that so many people that they passed by every day, had lives of their own. Lives that were complex; full of pain, joy, sorrow, laughter, anxiety, and passion. As they sat in the silence reflecting on their hearts, a simple prayer broke through the silence. "Lord what would you have of us?"
Through the following days and weeks, The Lord began to speak in the hearts of those students. He placed desires and a vision in their hearts; glimpses of what it could look like to experience the fullness of a gospel-centered community. A place to belong. A place that's free of judgment, comparison, competition, division, and complacency. So they set forth to create a space like that for all people. Yet even more so, they strive to cultivate a way of life, that invites others to walk in unity under the banner of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is Sonder + Co .
LAUNCH / / 2024
In the summer of 2024, Sonder + Co began a journey to reach the loneliest corners of society by launching a movement called The Sonder Movement. At the root of this movement, our desire was to see the power of the Gospel break down every wall in our generation. We believe we are going to see the Lord tear down walls of ethnicity, gender, politics, social status, money, etc. in our generation. We are expectantly praying for the opportunity to take part in a shift on a massive scale that will revitalize the lives of generation Z and generation Alpha.
The vision of the movement is to strip away the toxic aspects in culture that negatively affect our daily lives and reconnect with one another on a deep, relational level. This happens by unravelling the raw beauty and powerful simplicity of the Gospel. We pursue one another with fervency and love one another without condition. Our goal is to re-inspire people to belong to something bigger than themselves. This "thing" is a community of believers that love one another as Christ did.
The brand of Sonder + Co. exists to call up the next generation of people to live differently than the world. We long to inspire people to walk away from a life ruled by comparison and media consumption and step into a whole new world of freedom, creativity, and deep connection, together, under the banner of Christ. FIVE TWENTY, 2024
FIVE TWENTY is a phrase drawn from 2 Corinthians 5:20 in which Paul writes to the church in Corinth saying, "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God". This verse flooded our hearts and inspired us to create art that reconciles people to God. The term "ambassador" means to be "an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country". This is our role as a community. We are given a high responsibility, chosen by an eternal kingdom, to represent the freedom and unconditional love to a broken world.
